Credit Card Security

Credit card fraud is an increasingly serious problem but the vast majority of people never suffer from it. Taking some simple precautions can help you to keep your finances secure and protected.

Always

Never

  1. Sign your card as soon as it arrives.
  2. Try to carry your credit cards seperately from your wallet.
  3. Keep a record of your card number, expiry date and customer service telephone numbers in a safe place. If you lose your card or it stolen, you´ll need that information in order to cancel it-
  4. Cancel your card as soon as you realise it has been lost or stolen
  5. Inform the police immediately of any suspected robbery. Although the process may seem long and irritating, in the long run it will make it much easy to claim back any stolen funds
  6. Keep your receipts and check them against your statements.
  7. Open and read your statements as soon as they arrive, so that you can deal with any problems as immediately.
  1. Lend your card to anyone
  2. Leave your card or statements in any public place
  3. Write down your PIN number. Memorise it. If you absolutely have to write it down, never, never leave it in the same place as your card
  4. Sign a blank receipt
  5. Give your card number to anyone over the telephone unless you are sure of who you are dealing with.

Following these basic steps can go a long way to protecting yourself from fraudsters. However, it is still important to be aware of certain specific types of credit card fraudand how to avoid them
